Free course on FIRST AID for ivolunteers-on 26th April 2009
ARE YOU READY TO BECOME A ‘SOCIAL DOCTOR’?
What would you do if you have the unfortunate moment of having to witness your colleague collapse in front of you? If so, will you have a sense of panic or helplessness? Well, you are not alone! Medical emergencies are inevitable, and it is important for each one of us to be prepared to face it. While handling an emergency situation, every second counts and there is no scope for an error or a second chance.
iVolunteer along with ALERT will be presenting a course on life support skills, that will educate people on how best they can help to save a life by learning the essentials of basic life support. Having this knowledge and skill could make a ‘social doctor’ out of every individual who can now make an effort to attend on causalities before they deteriorate, thereby pave a path to a healthier society. ALERT has undertaken Emergency Response as its first and core project.Through this project ALERT aims to train various sections of the society in emergency response and also build support systems to make emergency care available to one and all in the society. This program is being taken to corporates, educational institutions and other social bodies. To register yourself for this course, kindly confirm your presence for the programme, through email by mailing to Chennai@ivolunteer.in or call us at 98414 87984.

HCL CSC Week - CRR
Let me start of with two simple questions.
I am sure that many of us are good in mathematics and know various formulae. But how many of us here would know or atleast heard about the following formula?
CHILD LABOUR = HUMANITY – (LOVE * KINDNESS)
When a Child bends its head for Labour or for Begging, we should bend our heads which makes every citizen of this country ashamed. Today this is a subject that needs mending with the object called HUMANITY. Child Labour is a spiritual disease caused by “lack of compassion”, dreadful than the any other viruses. Poverty is another social disease which is caused by ‘Child Labour’. Thus Child labor and poverty are inevitably bound together. Children do not constitute anyone's property; they are neither the property of their parents nor even of society. They belong only to their own future of freedom.
Education is the only passport for these kids to have a better future. In serving the best interests of children, we serve the best interests of all humanity. The CSC has come out with a program called CHILD RESCUE & REHABILIATION (CRR) Program for the interest of such kids, who are in need for help rather a better future. They may not be on par with other kids nor gifted with such amenities, but still those kids are like any other kid who aspires a lot and dream about his/her future. The motive behind this CRR exercise is to identify children who are forced to do Child Labor and to Rescue/Motivate/Encourage them to join in Govt or Non- Profitable NGO’s. We are in the process of identifying Samaritans (volunteers) from each facility called CRR team and in turn this CRR team would create awareness to the employees about the CRR initiative and its plans. You will hear more on this shortly through Augustin, our program coordinator (Amb-6, Mob 9940139497, email: ajosephx@cisco.com ) and your respective CSC spocs of your facility. This is another journey of enlightening one’s life. What needed now is, increased efforts to promote participation and commitment; more services aimed souls with more parental involvement.
They are waiting for us. They badly need us. Come together and join hands to build up a fabulous alliance for this legendary rather spiritual journey.
>> About CRR:
The motive behind this CRR exercise is to identify children who are forced to do Child Labor and to Rescue/Motivate/Encourage them to join in Govt or Non- Profitable NGO’s.
>> Pointers from existing Child Labor Rehabilitation NGO’s: (Modus operandi of Govt. NGO’s)
1. Maria Joy Joshua of Child Development Projects under Social Welfare Development of the Govt. currently supports only the Rescued Child and not their family members.
2. On dialing and enquiring 1098 Child Labor Complain Number Cell, they have also said clearly that they would support the child who is an orphan and not the children who are with their family members.
3. As published in the daily ‘Dhinakaran’ on Feb 3rd, Labor and Employment Dept Chief Mr. Prabhakar Rao has said that the Indus Child Labor Scheme (Jointly formed by the Indian Govt Labor Dept and American Govt Labor Dept) is taking care of the Child Labors in and around the districts of Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, Namakkal, Thiruvannamalai and Virudhu Nagar.
He also added that they will identify the children affected by Child Labor and as rehabilitation exercise will make them join in special schools. They would also provide Uniforms, Books, Lunch and Rs. 100 (Monthly) as a part of personal expenses for the children.
Indian Govt Labor Dept has formed 389 Self Helping Committee with a total fund allocation of Rs. 20.46/- Lacs in order to facilitate Child Laborers to join these special schools.
The committee would also take care of the Children’s parents if they are in critical situation to survive on a case to case basis.
4. Along with Government below welfare organization is successfully running for Child Labor.

Mr.Veerappan (IL1)-9840159212
(IL2)-9442957888
Mr.Subramani (IL3)-9444159086
>> Primary Goal of CRR:
1. Need to support the Child’s family if that particular child is earning money for the survival of his/her family.
2. Work along with Indus Child Labor Scheme to achieve the above goal.
>> Action Plan:
Identify the volunteers from each facility for CRR.
CRR Team would create awareness to the employees about the CRR initiative and its plans.
Employees should inform to those volunteer members if they come across any child labor or they can directly contact to 1098 for making a complaint.
If the Child Labor is an orphan, Govt. will take direct initiative to make the child join in any of the special schools for Child Labor.
If the Child Labor is earning for the survival of his/her parents/family, CRR should please the Govt to support their parents (along with Indus Child Labor Scheme or any other NGO’s).
HCL CSC Week - NRP
“Without a sense of caring, there can be no sense of community”
One is not born into the world to do everything but to do something. Not only Albert Einstein, but I also believe that “Only a life lived for others, is a life worthwhile.” It is more important to become a man of value rather man of success. We here at HCL has men of both values and success. Now that there is so much of pollution in the Air, we don’t have any option left other than to use our lungs to deposit those. When we celebrate each and every milestone in science and technology, we neglect the fact that it is certainly causing a kind of damage to Mother Nature. Remember all modern technology always owes an apology to the ecology. Today all the Black and White (referring News papers) are in Red (referring Violence). This fact reveals that we kill good trees for all bad news.
So far, be it any Civilization that history teaches us, all have wrecked the planet from seafloor to stratosphere. None can deny this. If civilization has risen from the Stone Age, it can rise again from the current Wastepaper Age also. And this time it is a civilization that is going to fight for a green planet, prevent any further harassments on Mother Nature, stop any exploitation of natural resources and thereby healing the earth. We say we love flowers, yet we pluck them. We say we love trees, yet we cut them down. Now I am afraid when someone tells me that they love me!?!?! We are about half a century away from being ecologically and economically bankrupt because of global warming. So it’s now or never.
As a part of CSC week, we are planning for NRP (Nature Revival Program). Aim of the NRP is to create awareness on hazards of environmental loss. To minimize these losses we are planning for 2 activities as follows.
1. Plantation
2. Sapling Distribution
The program coordinator for NRP is Shailesh (STC, 99625 10906. shailesh.joshi@hcl.in). You will hear more from your facility CSC Team leader on the execution part. Looking forward to your support and participation.
Remember, we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors. We have borrowed it from our children. There are no passengers on Spaceship Earth. We are all crew. Man is a complex being: he makes deserts bloom - and lakes die.
Let’s make desserts bloom very soon!
In Our Branch(Amb 6)we planted 8 saplings in front of office and employeers bought good number of saplings at the time of CSC week.
HCL CSC Week - Teach @ Office
Here I would like to make a first call and invite volunteers to be part of this ‘great journey of enlightenment’. You would be expected to assist us for just 2 hrs in a week by teaching your our security guards. We know that the roots of the education are bitter, but the fruits are always sweet. It’s now time for us to share this to our fellow persons. Remember “The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.”
Rahul (Amb 6, Mob:9940688577 email: rahulganapathy_s@hcl.in ) is the program coordinator. You will hear more from him on the plan and execution.
Looking forward to you as a teacher.

HCL CSC Week - FNP
The aim of FNP is “to bring joy and happiness to the people who are challenged or orphaned and to the poor and convey them that we care”.
We have short listed number of orphanages and old age homes to work with and we have visited them . Depending on the resources and volunteers we will enlarge the list. This week, have added one more to the list, after our CSC members visited a home called “Hands of Compassion” at Red Hills. Here they have 115 children. All of them are from North East and Andamans who lost their parents due to earthquakes and they converse only in English.
We are planning to do the following.
Raise funds. During the CSC week we will be selling CSC batches at Rs 10 each and use this fund for what these institutions need.
Collection of material. At each facility boxes will be placed for collection of dresses, toys, footwear, stationery and any other useful material.

What is all these about? So keep thinking and we will let you know in the coming days. Also we invite you to participate and contribute in any of the programs for the betterment of the community, as always you do. You had been a wonderful contributor with generous heart to the CSC activities and we wouldn’t have succeeded in all those initiatives without your untiring support.
New Year day with under privileged: We take this opportunity to thank all the HCLites who took part in large numbers with their family members in response to our mail. It was amazing and encouraging to see so many of you volunteered to work and brought in so much of gifts. The complete catering arrangement for the whole day was managed by HCL volunteers. The gifts poured more than we wanted. A total of 850 blinds and inmates of orphanages gathered. It was heartwarming to see these usually sad faces transformed with delight and danced to the loud music played by the blind band. We are sure this day will linger in their mind for long. Our heartfelt thanks to all of you guys for this extraordinary support which turned this event a grand success.
HCL CSC is looking for your hand.
